Day 6: Reclaim your news feed

Today, we reclaim our ability to think critically in a media landscape designed to keep us divided, distracted, and disempowered. Corporate media profits from our outrage and confusion—breaking free from algorithmic manipulation is an act of resistance.

The ruling class benefits when we're trapped in echo chambers, unable to understand different perspectives or build coalitions across difference. Meanwhile, they consolidate power while we argue over curated narratives designed to keep us from organizing together.

Today's Action:

  • Visit a media bias rating site like Ad Fontes Media or AllSides

  • Sign up for two center-right and two center-left news sources that prioritize factual reporting

  • Unsubscribe from sensationalized sources that prioritize clicks over truth

  • Commit to reading across the spectrum regularly to develop media literacy

Our grief for the death of shared reality stems from decades of media consolidation and algorithmic radicalization. When we can't agree on basic facts, we can't organize effectively for justice. Reclaiming critical thinking is reclaiming our power.

This isn't about "both sides" false equivalency, it's about understanding how different communities receive information so we can build bridges and counter disinformation more effectively.

Media literacy is community defense. When we think critically about information, we protect ourselves and our neighbors from manipulation designed to divide us.
