A diverse coalition of community members are coming together for a “Vigil for Grief and Loss” to gather, honor, name, and tend to the many forms of loss members of Traverse City are living through together.
WHAT: This vigil is coming together from a diverse coalition of community led organizations and concerned citizens. We will hold this vigil to create space for the communities’ grief rooted in both the personal and the collective - losses born from the systems and histories that continue to shape our present. Attendees will hear from people directly experiencing loss such as the loss of life in ICE detention centers, the loss of food security as SNAP benefits are cut, the ongoing loss and theft of Indigenous land and the loss of safety for our LGBTQ+ brothers and sisters, to name a few. We will build community through song and collective action.
WHO: Spiritual Activists Leading Together (SALT), NoMi Neighbor Network, MidEast Just Peace, Traverse Indivisible, The Solidarity Organizing InitiativeAnd more!
WHEN: Monday, November 24th, 6:00 - 8:00 pm
WHERE: Medalie Park, 1910 West South Airport Road, Traverse City, MI 49686
WHY: Many in our community are feeling some form of grief right now and we want people to know their grievances are all connected and they are not alone. In recognizing these interconnected griefs, we also root ourselves in solidarity and collective care. We know that tending loss together helps us expand our sense of "us" and create a resilient community. All are welcome.
