Meet The Candidates Forum: MI-01 Congressional

  • Milliken Auditorium 1410 College Drive Traverse City, MI, 49686 United States (map)

Presented by Traverse Indivisible Education & Solidarity (TIES)

Hear directly from the people who want to represent us in Washington.

What makes this candidate forum different is simple: it’s happening before the August primary—when it actually matters. Primaries are often treated like insider politics, driven by party regulars and big donors. But the primary belongs to all of us. This is when everyday voters can still shape the outcome. If you care about grassroots democracy, this is where you show up.

The forum will be moderated and structured so candidates address real issues, not just talking points. All primary candidates are being invited to participate in a conversation grounded in fairness and respect. Already Republican, Democratic and Independent candidates have committed to participate.

The event will also be live-streamed for those who can’t attend in person.

We’re asking audience members to remain quiet and respectful so every candidate can be heard.

Schedule
5:15 pm — Doors open; informal meet & greet (Dennos Museum Sculpture Court)
6:00 – 7:30 pm — Forum (Milliken Auditorium)
7:30 – 8:00 pm — Post-forum candidate chat in the Sculpture Court

All primary candidates for Michigan's First District are being invited, regardless of political affiliation.

At its core, this event is about showing up early, paying attention, and taking self-government seriously—neighbors coming together to listen, learn, and decide before the choices are locked in.
